Nick Mahler is the owner of Dallas Novelty which was started in 2003 as a way to get into the adult business and get good prices on sex toys.

I have always owned my own businesses starting with a dog/house sitting business when I was 16 and breeding Basset Hounds for my FFA animal project. I ended up making more money breeding dogs than my mom did teaching school so I used the money to buy DJ equipment and did most of our school dances. I had been voted employee of the month 13 of the 26 months I worked there and worked my way up to department manager for lawn & garden and then sporting goods and finally electronics. When I was door greeter I was tasked with helping customers at the front and “zone defense” straightening/stocking, I walked every row in our store and knew approximately where everything was located so when a customer wanted something I could tell them what aisle it was on. I was making more than the assistant managers with my bonuses for moving up so fast, I got to meet everyone in Bentonville.

Since my disease had progressed after a serious car wreck I had to figure out something to do from home, this was in 1996 and we had our first computer in early 95 but hadn’t really messed with it much. I created websites for churches and stuff until I got into the 94-96 Impala SS world and found a niche for high performance parts that were being bought by every LT1 owner so I made a website with photos of our products and took orders over the phone. I had always been into cars with street racing in high school and after graduation and now I could make money supplying the best parts to people all over the world. My company MaCo Motorsports and later Maco Performance ended up selling parts for custom cars and trucks with a 15,000 sq ft Custom body shop doing everything from airbag suspensions to full custom magazine vehicles and SEMA show cars. One way I stayed up on what’s hot and how to do different things was to get around 50 car magazines a month and read cover to cover, I still have about 3 tons of magazines lol. We were Boyd Coddington Wheels largest southwest distributor for almost 2 years until a competitor got mad we were a small shop taking a huge chunk of their business.

Credit card fraud was rampant during that time because it was so easy to do it before AVS and other security features we now have. I lost over $100k in 2000-01 and this pretty much put me out of the parts business. Right before all this happened I had met my wife, Lori, we married in 2000 and she had been in the mortgage business for 10 years.

I ended up taking a bunch of classes and getting my loan officer assistant license and eventually my TX LO license then a Tx Mortgage broker license. I ended up moving to Dallas in 2001 and opened a mortgage branch with a partner since I didn’t have my FHA/VA License yet. In 2003 I opened my first mortgage company branch and within 3 years I had bought my partner out and had 45+ loan officers and assistants in a 5000sqft office with my “boiler room”. In 2005-6 I had 3 LOs taking home more than $100k a month doing mortgage loans, my branch did more than $400M every year and our combined company did over $1.8B/yearly in loans.

In 2003 I was voted a Texas Businessman of the Year and went to Washington, DC to meet with President Bush and presented my award by a couple senators in front of the other 49 state reps at a big gala. When the mortgage industry took a huge downturn in 2008 it got harder for me to get loans and my people still wanted the easy money and didn’t want to work or learn how to do other loans. Because of my disease I had always been in the office running things but had to start doing face-to-face meetings with realtors & builders and quickly found out that my condition made them talk to my hot big boobed assistants because they didn’t think the handicap dude knew what he was doing. We would go into offices and the receptionists wouldn’t even acknowledge me when I came in to talk about doing loans. So I had to find something else to do and I remembered that I had started a cnv account back in 2003. We got to meet some awesome people at both shows and they didn’t judge me because of my condition because most are tatted up or just different so I was accepted.

I now buy products from about 25 companies and numerous small manufacturers like NatVideo, Entrenue, Nalpac, Folsom Electric and Crystal Delights. We don’t use a generic feed like 99% of the dropship companies out there. I have entered almost all the 16,000 items that are currently on the site including editing every picture and coding. I try to get every measurement I can including measuring them myself using photoshop because a bunch of manufacturers suck at providing information. I include all ingredients for almost everything we sell from dongs to lubes. One area that I am working on is helping disabled customers find sex toys that they can use with severe physical mobility like I have. I think this could be a huge relatively untapped market.
